Margie Estelle Winfield Emerson

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church for Margie Estelle Winfield Emerson, 96, who passed away on January 2, 2026. Msgr. Russell Harrington will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Memorial Park. Mrs. Margie, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Joseph Alfred Winfield and the former Maggie Monterey Meeks. Born in Port Lavaca and raised in El Campo, TX, she met and married the love of her life, Champ, in Hardin, TX in 1947. Margie and her family moved to Lafayette in 1962, where they remained and raised their 6 children. Margie was a talented seamstress, she even made all of her daughter's dresses every year for school. She was a devoted Catholic, who served the community through her church parishes and various local organizations. Margie was also the very first woman recipient of the Franciscan Service Award through Our Lady of Lourdes. Though always involved in her community, her family was the utmost priority; Margie ensured her children were raised in a good Catholic home. She loved sewing, gardening, entertaining, and was an avid Bridge player, among other card games. We will miss you dearly "Granny Green Jeans", especially your fried chicken! She is survived by her children, Gloria E. (Dale) Domingue, Margaret E. (Jody) Beard, Vicky E. (Kevin) Hines, Deborah E. (J.C.) Briant, Janet E. (Kyle) Nott, and W. Michael (Paula) Emerson; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, William Champ Emerson; grandsons, Sam Emerson and Chance Briant; parents, Joseph and Maggie Winfield; and all of her 15 older siblings. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, January 5, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Monday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 8:00 AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Ted Brown, André Champagne, Tim Veillon, Aaron Emerson, Michael Emerson, Cilton "Jay" Beard, III, and Carey Hines.
