Marlene Ann Guidry Ducharme

Marlene Ann Guidry Ducharme of Lafayette, La passed away on April 10, 2020 at the age of 68, peacefully at her home in Lafayette, La on Good Friday. After battling cancer under the care of Cancer Center of Acadiana and Grace Hospice of Acadiana she is now at a peaceful rest. The family would like to encourage everyone to remember Marlene in this time of grieving and will hold a memorial service after the pandemic is over. Marlene will be cremated and placed into a vessel that her son Shawn has made. Marlene is survived by her husband of 50 years, David Lee Ducharme; three children, Charles David Ducharme and his wife, Lucy, of Bossier City, La, Laura Leigh Ducharme Bares and her husband, Shawn, of Lafayette, La and Shawn David Ducharme and wife, Melissa, of Lafayette, La. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, Wyatt and Hunter Burnette of Lafayette, La; Lucas, Jonah and Eric Ducharme of Bossier City, La; and Jackson and Eli Ducharme of Lafayette, La. Marlene is also survived by her brother, James Chester Guidry and wife, Linda, of Broussard, and two sisters Fannela Faye Sandidge and husband, Bo, of Plaqumine, La and Lynnette Ann Guidry of Lafayette, La.; her nephews and nieces, who include Allison Guidry, Clint Sandiage, Racheal Sandiage, and Tiffanie Robicheaux. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester Guidry; her mother, Theola Marie Foreman Guidry; her father-in-law, Lee Ducharme; her mother-in-law, Ruth Ducharme and her brother-in-law, Ken Hamilton. Marlene graduated from Lafayette High School, class of 1969. She started working at McCorys in Lafayette, La, then Heymanns in Lafayette, La, and was an operator with South Central Bell in Lafayette, La. She married David Ducharme in 1970. Together they raised three children. She then sewed professionally for Mrs. Mattie Hudson for 5 years, then started her own business, M & K Drapers, for the next 16 years. The Ducharme family would like to extend great appreciation and gratitude for the loving care provided by Amy Broussard, the attending nurse, from Grace Hospice. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make donations to Grace Hospice and or The Cancer Center of Acadiana in Marlene's name.
