Mary Ann Dominique Ashy

A Liturgy of The Word will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday April 23, 2024, in Delhomme Chapel of The Flowers for Mary Ann Dominique Ashy, 87, who passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024. Reverend Howard Blessing will conduct the funeral services. Ms. Ashy, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of Alcide Dominique and the former Aline Mary Olley. She was a 1954 graduate of Mt. Carmel School where she was president of the Sodality of Our Lady. She was a member of the Third Order of Carmelite and the Catholic Daughters of The Americas. Ms. Ashy was surrounded in love by her children and grandchildren at the time of her passing. She also had the opportunity to visit with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren in recent weeks. She was a pillar of kindness and generosity, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and selflessness. A woman of grace and devotion, she found solace in her Catholic faith and lived it daily through Mass attendance, praying the Rosary, and her acts of service. With a heart overflowing with love, she embodied the spirit of giving to those in need. She was a beacon of hospitality, ensuring everyone felt welcomed and cared for in her presence. Her nurturing nature extended beyond her family to all who crossed her path. She was “Sitti” to many. Her commitment to family was unwavering, exemplified by the love she poured into her relationships. Her handwritten letters and timeless advice, filled with gentle wisdom and warmth, will forever be cherished by those lucky enough to receive them. Let it be known that rain or shine, she remained dedicated to always looking her best. She’d emerge from the salon with her signature style intact, ready to tackle the day with grace and flair. Her weekly gatherings with friends, a fun-loving crew of relatives and peers, were legendary. Armed with cards and a modest budget of the timeless $20 poverty, they’d engage in spirited games of bouree’, where the stakes were low, but the camaraderie priceless. Amidst the friendly banter and the shuffling of cards, she showcased her sharp mind and prowess at the card table, proving that even in friendly competition, she was a force with which to be reckoned. Her knack for numbers and love of the game ensured that every gathering was not just a night out, but a cherished memory etched in the hearts of many. Though she may have departed this world, her spirit of love and generosity will continue to inspire us all. May she rest in peace, forever remembered and deeply missed. She is survived by daughters, Jennifer M. Ashy, Melanie Ashy Poehler (Tom), and Angela Ashy Cox; son, Mitchell A. Ashy; grandchildren, Joseph Stevens (Crystal), Allison Poehler, Amanda Chapman (Lee), Katie Holland (Elijiah), Caroline Poehler, Jason Hukins, Shane Hukins (Chloe), Joniann Stigall (Payton), Alex Ashy, Hannah Weirich (Kevin), and Sage Ashy; 22 great grandchildren; brother, Roland Dominique; sisters.in law, Helen Jo Maxey Dominique, Essie Ashy Deshotels, and Claire Moss Ashy. She was preceded in death by her parents Alcide and Aline Olley Dominique; and brother Paul Joseph Dominique. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand Drive from 8:30 a.m. until time of funeral service and Mass at 11:00 a.m. Court Immaculata 503 of the Catholic Daughters of The Americas will lead a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Jason Hukins, Alex Ashy, Joseph Stevens, Shane Hukins, Sage Ashy, and Lee Chapman. The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to both Ms. Agnes and her ladies from Agnes’ Loving Care and to Hospice of Acadiana Staff for the exceptional care and support they all provided with an unwavering commitment and tireless love throughout such a difficult time. Thank you to Doctor Agostino Ingraldi for not only being a remarkable cardiologist, but a truly selfless friend. Your genuine kindness, comforting faith and dedication to patient care touched our hearts and made a profound difference in our mother’s life. To Father Blessing we extend our sincere thank you for your loving words and prayers of strength and comfort during your visits at her bedside.
