Mary Jane Gotautas

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mary Jane Dean Gotautas, 76, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at her daughter's residence in Baton Rouge. Reverend Cyprien Eze, Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima Church, will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Jane, born on September 10, 1931 in Brookville, Ohio, was the daughter of the late John William Dean, Sr. of Chilhowie, Virginia and the former Beatrice Jeanette Althouse of Beaver, Ohio. She attended Miami University of Ohio where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and met her husband, Vito A. Gotautas. She was a resident of Lafayette and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church for the past 51 years. An avid musician, she played and taught the piano to many students. She was a member of various music organizations, which included Lafayette Piano Teachers, Bel Canto Music Club and L'Heure de Musique. Her many interests included traveling extensively, participating in Catholic Daughters; where she served as a treasurer, Altar Society of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Lafayette Garden Club, bible study, many continuing education classes at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and ushering at the Heymann Performing Arts Center. She was also a member of the Civinettes and the Krewe of Zeus. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jane and Terry Riddle of Katy, Texas, Patricia and Scott Gibson of Frostburg, Maryland, and Anita and Scott Trussell of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Blake Riddle, Dianne Riddle Mikeska, Mandy and Bonnie Malloy, Spencer, Katie, and Zachary Trussell; and one brother, John W. Dean, Jr. of Brookville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vito A. Gotautas; and her parents. The family requests that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and continue Wednesday from 10:00 am until time of service. Pallbearers will be Scott Trussell, Spencer Trussell, Zachary Trussell, Terry Riddle, Blake Riddle, Scott Gibson, and Neil Mikeska. A rosary will be recited at 6:15 pm on Tuesday in the funeral home. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Joseph Brierre, Eric Buller, and Hospice of Baton Rouge for the care and kindness shown to our family.
