Maysel Theresa Arceneaux

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 8, 2025 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for Maysel Theresa Arceneaux, 93, who passed away on March 4, 2025. Reverend Ken Domingue will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery - Scott. Maysel Savoie Arceneaux passed away peacfully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home to her husband of 65 years, John, and their 6 children. Maysel’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Her friendly smile would light up a room, and her kind heart would make others feel so comfortable and warm. She was the heart and soul of her family, and loved to reminisce about the “good ole days” of picking cotton and walking a mile to the bus stop every morning. She was a hard worker, who never complained about it. She was a stay-at-home mother and a seamstress for many satisfied customers. She then opened up a diner in Scott, Cajun Cone Restaurant, where she once again had many satisfied customers! She was so very thrilled to feed people all the while, making lasting friendships with her regular customers. She was a part of their life story, and she absolutely loved that about it. While owning the restaurant, she would drive a school bus for the Scott area schools. She retired from the Lafayette Parish School System with many memories from the students she met and transported to and from school. She had lots of stories to share about that! Traveling was an important part of her life as well. There was always enough time for a trip somewhere in order to balance out her work, then play schedule. Her favorite destinations were the mountains of Tennessee and the Beaches of Destin. Above all, she loved the Lord and had a loving relationship with him. She once responded to a question about if she loved Jesus, and she replied “oh, I dearly love Jesus”. She taught her children and many other students about God and his love for them. She was a 2nd grade Catechism teacher for 30+ years and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Her faith was in the completed work of Jesus, and she was not afraid to tell others about it. “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10:15. As it is written on the foot of her son, Danny’s grave, “life has not ended, but merely changed.” We believe this truth for her as well. Maysel will be remembered as a kind, generous, determined and loving person. She will never be forgotten. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Audubon Hospice, and their caring nurses, Dr. Kenneth Spiller and his staff, her committed and loving sitters, Theresa Faul and Michelle DesJacque. We appreciate your dedication to taking the best care of our mother. Maysel, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Ellis Savoie and the former Lorena Credeur. She is survived by her children, Steven Arceneaux and wife, Angela, Randy Arceneaux, Jody Arceneaux and wife, Marion, and Melodie Gallet and husband, Phil; grandchildren, Phillip Arceneaux, Stefan Arceneaux, Crystal Guidry, Jason Arceneaux, Cody Arceneaux, Corey Arceneaux, Daniel Arceneaux, Joshua Arceneaux, Jacob Gallet, and Danni Gallet; 14 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren, and brother, Elmo Savoie. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John H. Arceneaux; sons, Danny and Jean Arceneaux; siblings, Ward Savoie, Walton Savoie, and Sylvia Hanks. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Scott on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00PM on Friday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The pallbearers will be her grandsons.
