A Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at 10:30 am for Dr. Michael Ephrem Boustany, age 93, who passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Lafayette General Medical Center. Reverend Michael Russo, Pastor of Our Lady of Fatima, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct funeral services. Burial will take place in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. Dr. Michael Boustany was born on May 12, 1920, the son of the late Alfred Frem Boustany and Florida Saloom Boustany. He graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1944. He completed his internship and surgery residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. Following military service in the U. S. Army Medical Corps, Dr. Boustany returned to his home in Lafayette to begin his practice in general medicine and surgery. He was a member of the American Board of Surgeons, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, American Medical Association, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons. He was on staff at Lafayette Sanatarium, St Anne’s Infirmary, Lafayette General Medical Center and Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. His community activities included membership in the Civic Club, the crew of the Krewe of Gabriel, a Board member of the American Bank and a charter member of the Pinhook Rotary Club. He served as Coroner for Lafayette Parish for several terms. He was a successful businessman and real estate investor. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid sports fan. Dr. Boustany is survived by his six children, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two siblings. His children include Michele Waguespack and her husband Galyn Waguespack, Sheila Arnold and her husband Dr. Gary Arnold, Helene Lee and her husband Dr. Richard Lee, Farida Alvarez and her husband Bill Alvarez, Michael Boustany Jr. and his wife Kim McCauley Boustany and Dr. Patty Boustany and her partner Jason Lloyd. Dr. Boustany’s surviving siblings are Antoine Boustany and Mariam Buttross. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Carnley Boustany, parents Alfred F. Boustany and Florida Saloom Boustany, two sisters Yvonne Boustany Buttross and Inez Boustany Karre, and one brother Dr. Charles Boustany Sr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home 1011 Bertrand Dr. Lafayette, LA on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 from 8:30 am until time of services. Pallbearers will be Dr. Gary Arnold, Galyn Waguespack, Dr. Richard Lee, Bill Alvarez, Vaughan Fontenot, Rhett Sabadie, and Rob Mistretta.
