Mosey Edward Rausch

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 21, 2018 in St. Edmond Church for Dr. Mosey Edward Rausch, 68, who passed away at his residence on May 17, 2018. Burial will take place in Fountain Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Dr. Rausch was a native of Winamac, Indiana, born to Francis and Gertrude Rausch. He grew up on his family farm in Indiana working diligently alongside his eight siblings. Dr. Rausch found his calling in life at Purdue University when he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. While at Purdue he was known as “The Wild Boar” to his fellow vet students. He was a proud Boilermaker. After graduating in 1972, fresh from the Midwest, Dr. Moe relocated to Marrero, Louisiana where he met the love of his life, Marlene Alba. They married in 1975 and decided to start their family in Lafayette, Louisiana. They had two daughters, Lauren Elizabeth and Jennifer Elaine, who would become their pride and joy. Dr. Moe was a true family man. Soon thereafter he opened up his own practice, Town and Country Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Rausch was a beloved veterinarian in Lafayette for over thirty five years, known by most of his clients as “Doc”. His love and compassion for all animals was evident to anyone who knew him. Even after his retirement, Dr. Moe followed his calling and traveled to Haiti after the devastating earthquake to provide care and vaccinations for local farm animals. He was a devout Catholic who was committed to helping others just as Jesus did. He selflessly gave of his time to countless charities and organizations including the Carmelites, Kairos Prison Ministry, Haiti Kobonal Mission, and the Serra Club. Dr. Rausch was a faithful parishioner of St. Edmonds Catholic Church since his move to Lafayette. He was a CCD teacher and retreat leader in order to share his love for Christ. One of Dr. Moe’s biggest passions in life was enjoying and exploring the majesty of God’s country in Jackson, Wyoming. He enjoyed sharing his wisdom and knowledge of the valley to all that visited, especially his family. He was never happier than when he was there fishing, hiking, and exploring Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Gros Ventre range. As an honorary Cajun, he also enjoyed fishing the waterways and hunting the duck blinds of south Louisiana. He truly lived life to the fullest and loved to be surrounded by his family and nature. He is survived by his daughters, Lauren Poche’ and her husband William, Jennifer Clause and her husband Adam, seven siblings, and his wife’s family in Marrero, Louisiana. Dr. Rausch was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Marlene. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 11:00AM to 1:30PM. The pallbearers will be William Poche’, Adam Clause, Scott Russell, Bryce Russell, Kenneth Matherne, Seth Matherne, Peyton Matherne, Larry Rausch, and Dan Rausch. Honorary pallbearers are John O’Meara, Mike Hillman, Dr. Dale Trahan, Eloy Placer, Bill Charbonnet, Tommy “Sweets” Aucoin, Robert Michalk, Dr. Toby Wexler, Dr. Andy Reaux and Chris Barras. The family would like to thank the Speech Pathology Clinic at UL as well as the Lourdes Outpatient Speech Therapists. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Acadiana Animal Aid and The Carmelite Monastery.
