Nina Ursule Landry Breaux

Funeral services will be held at a 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, December 19, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Nina Ursule Landry Breaux, 82, who passed away December 16, 2007 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Reverend Howard Blessing, Pastor of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Lafayette will be Celebrant of the Mass and conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Delcambre, LA. Mrs. Breaux, the daughter of the late Joseph Fenelon Landry and the former Meda LeBlanc, was born July 27, 1925 in Erath and was a resident of Lafayette. She graduated from Delcambre High School in 1942. She entered SLI in 1945 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. While teaching chemistry and other subjects, she attended SLI for classes in Elementary Education and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1955. Nina taught elementary and high school classes for eleven years and then married Val D. Breaux, Jr. on December 26, 1959. Val was employed by an engineering, manufacturing and construction enterprise based in Alhambra, CA where they maintained a permanent residence. Besides extended assignments at the home office, they enjoyed assignments in several states and overseas. Nina was a sports fan and enjoyed golf until the adoption of a five-week-old baby girl, Nina Marie. After a few idle years, she felt she could handle a growing child and steady tennis. She was an avid tennis player for twenty years. While living in Alhambra, CA, Nina was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Therese Catholic Church and a volunteer helper at the church school. After almost 40 years of engineering and construction assignments, Nina and Val decided to retire in Louisiana. Lafayette won over their birth towns of Delcambre or Gueydan. Since Val's retirement in 1987, she enjoyed being busy, working or volunteering her time. She taught Catholic education to second grade children. She was a member of Holy Cross Ladies Altar Society and a rosary group. Survivors include her husband, Val D. Breaux, Jr.; one daughter, Nina Marie Breaux Epstein and husband, Brian; grandson, Benjamin Epstein; sisters, Nell Landry Caballero of Belle Rose, LA, and Florence Landry Kelly of Monroe, LA; and one brother, Joseph Fenelon Landry, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Fenelon and Meda LeBlanc Landry; brothers, Joseph Preston Landry, Joseph Earle Landry, and Joseph Marion Landry; and sisters, Mildred Marie Landry and Elaine Landry Martin. The family would like to thank all Our Lady of Lourdes concerned staff; Dr. Kenneth M. Spiller, Dr. Nathan Landry, and Dr. James Cole; and Cornerstone Village South staff. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Tuesday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Wednesday from 8 am until the time of service. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Steven Beverung, Anthony Duplechin, Brian Epstein, Louis Falgout, Jerry Landry and Trey Roth. Honorary pallbearers will be Christian Breaux, James Gauthier, Jules LeBlanc, John Martin, Michael Martin, and Timothy Roth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Nina Ursule Landry Breaux to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
