Ode' John Demette

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 am on Sunday, June 28th, 2015 at Calvary Cemetery for Ode' John Demette, 82, who passed away on June 27, 2015 at his residence. Ode, age 82 was born on August 3, 1932 to the parents of Zulma Aucoin Demette and Antoine Demette in Leroy, Louisiana. He spent his childhood years in Maurice. He was one of ten children and is survived by his sisters and brothers, Mary D. Fondren, Betty Dehart, Elgin Harrison, Henry Demette, Sr. and Perry Demette. Deceased brothers and sister are Claude A. Demette, Cloday Demette, Leoday Demette and Gloria Abshire. He married Amelia "Anna" Benoit in 1952 and also joined the U.S. Navy. He served for 4 years. They had 5 children, Cynthia "Cindy" Demette Patin, Ode Jr. (infant), Mark Demette, Bryan Demette and Tonya Demette Gueldner. Upon his return from the Navy, they made their home in Lafayette and he built their first home. He was a carpenter for a prominent Lafayette contractor and was a City of Lafayette Policeman for 20 years and retired as a Sergeant in 1979. He has always had different hobbies. During his life he raised parakeets, goats, pheasants, rabbits, chickens, roosters and always had a large vegetable garden, beautiful hibiscus plants and lily gardens. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, and 3 of his children. Ode Demette Jr. (infant) died in 1957, Bryan Demette, died in 2010 in a car accident and Tonya Demette Gueldner, died in 2009 in a car accident. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia "Cindy" Patin married to Keith J. Patin and his son , Mark, married to Cynthia Thomas Demette. He also has 5 grandchildren, Leah Patin Bourgeois (Tony), Beaugh Demette, Tyler Demette, Tiffanie Demette, Mark Demette II. Four great grandchildren, Collin Demette, Ava Bourgeois, Tyla A. Demette, and Taya S. Maxieson. He also leaves his loving friend Glenda Shelton. As per his personal wishes, there will be a graveside service only on Sunday, June 28th, 2015 at 10:00 am at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
