A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Broussard for Patsy Ann Hebert Comeaux, 91, who passed away on May 26, 2024. Fr. Michael Delcambre, Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Broussard, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery of Broussard. Born Patsy Ann Hebert on October 11th, 1932, to Oscar Gallve Hebert and Rose Faulk. She was number six of eight children. By those who knew her well, Patsy will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and genuinely caring nurse. She said she most wanted to be remembered as being there for her children and her husband whenever they were in need….and that, she was; having helped to raise several of her grandchildren, and becoming a steadfast, patient, caregiver to her beloved husband in their later years. Patsy grew up in Kaplan, La where her dad had taken over her grandpa’s “huge department store,” OG Hebert’s. She attended school in Kaplan from first to 12th grade, where she joined many academic clubs, played the French horn in the band & graduated from Kaplan High in 1951. In Kaplan, they lived near the store with her grandparents. Her fondest childhood memories were her annual long summer stays at her Aunt Toot’s, with cousin Joyce, in the country near Abbeville. Since she grew up in “the big town” of Kaplan, she recalled joyfully what a great time she would have on their farm, feeding cows and climbing trees. Patsy went to nursing school at Charity Hospital in New Orleans where she lived in a dorm and worked in the hospital for hands-on learning. She graduated from nursing school in 1954 as an RN, an accomplishment she was very proud of. During her last year of school in New Orleans, she met Frank Comeaux, her life-long love, on a blind date set up by her sister & sister’s husband. The two were married on April 16, 1955, just before Patsy got her first nursing job at a hospital in Sulfur. They started their family with their first-born arriving not quite 10 months later. “You can bet Mrs. Comeaux pulled out the calendar to do the math,” she recalled laughing. Going back to work, she took the 3 to11 shift so that either she or Frank would be home with the new baby around the clock. They rented a small house in Sulfur; Frank drove the 20-mile commute to Hackberry where he was teaching. After a year, they moved to Hackberry, and Patsy began commuting in her “fancy little blue 54 Chevy Belaire.” They rented a little house there until building their own home a couple of years later, where their other boys would be added to the family. They moved back to Broussard in 1965 where she quickly became an important and beloved member of Sacred Heart Church, as well as the tight community they would call home. It was in Broussard that she and Frank would meet many close friends and camping buddies. Patsy truly enjoyed the camping life they started at that time, remembering their first, the Chevy pick-up with a camper top where all 6 slept “with Dennis on the tailgate.” During that time, Patsy would start her favorite nursing job, making life-long friends working for Dr. Zerben Bienvenu for 11 years. During that time, Frank and Patsy also opened and ran a successful business together, Comeaux’s Washeteria on S. Beau Pre Rd, just behind the big house on Pinhook. She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, P. Frank Comeaux, Jr; sons, Patrick G. Comeaux (Michelle), Michael W. Comeaux (Marie), Karl J. Comeaux (Tammy), and Dennis J. Comeaux (Bobbi); grandchildren, T. J. Blanton (Brandy), Ashley Blanton, Allison C. Cook (Derek), Taylor C. Risner (Joshua), Wayne Comeaux, Whitney Ross, Olivia Ross, Julia R. Courville (Chase), Brittany C. Summerlin (Tyler), Morgan C. Fontenot (Taylor), Katie Comeaux, Michael Comeaux, Jenna Comeaux, and Joshua Comeaux; great-grandchildren, Knox, Max, Daphne, Khloe, Rowan, Lucia, June, and Mila; and sister, Florence H. Kite. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Rose Faulk Hebert, Sr.; five sisters, Juanita Scelfo, Rita Moreland, Doris Guidry, Dot Helo, and Gale Delcambre; and brother, Oscar G. “Jim” Hebert, Jr. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Broussard on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Pallbearers will be T. J. Blanton, Taylor Fontenot, Tyler Summerlin, Michael Comeaux, Joshua Comeaux, and Lee Martin, Jr. The family requests any memorial and honoraria giving be made to The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette, LA.
