Richard Arlen Keaveney

Memorial Services will be held at a 12:00 noon Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 4, 2009 the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Richard Arlen Keaveney, 71, who passed away on March 31, 2009 at his residence after a long illness. Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church will be the Celebrant of the mass. A native of Newton, Massachusettes, Richard was born March 6, 1938 but spent the past fifty years in Baton Rouge, Breaux Bridge, and Lafayette, Louisiana. Richard enjoyed a variety of interests. His love of art, quality antiques and porcelains culimated in Arlen Daniel Antiques and Interiors, a successful business with his partner Daniel J. Peck. Richard was also dedicated to community services, serving in The Extra Mile program in Lafayette; as executive director of the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce, and ecevutive director of the Lafayette Family Violence Intervention Program. Richard delighted in playing bridge, having the reputation of being a formidable player with gentlemanly good humor. He will be remembered as a loyal friend and a man of great faith in God's beneficence and love. For over 25 years he was especially devoted to perpetual adoration at the St. Bernard Chapel in Breaux Bridge. Richard will be missed by his family and his many, many friends. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Vietnam. Richard is survived by his devoted lifetime partner of fifty years, Daniel J. Peck who comforted him at the time of his death. He is also survived by his brothers, Steven, Donald, and William Keaveney; and his sisters Anne Keaveney Bonner and Jane Keaveney, and fifteen nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents Mary forsythe Keaveney and Michael Steven Keaveney. Special thanks to Dr. Ron Jenkins, Richard's dear friend and physician. Also Richard greatly acknowledged the tender care and kindness of the medical staff and nurses at both Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and Lafayette General Medical Center.
