Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Richard “Ricky” Claude Rees, 45, who passed away on May 18, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Survivors include his two children, Anna, 18, and Jacob, 17, along with his mother, Patricia Rees and eleven siblings – Grover Joseph, III (Landai), Robert (Sally), John (Linda), Stephen (Maline), Kathy Shires (Ed), Charlie, Peggy Crain (David), Tom, Dan (Kay), Mary, and Jim (Jeannine), many nieces and nephews, and several uncles and aunts. Knowing there are so many additional dear people in Richard’s life, his children wish to mention a special few - Greg Nelson, Greg Davis, Paula Futch, and Amber Bordelon. He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Joseph, Jr, both his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his great friend, Kenneth “Doc” Futch. Although he was the youngest of twelve, he never went unnoticed – from his shining personality to his bright bald head. His ability to charm everyone he met earned him the nickname, “Slick Rick" - a name he had decided that, when he became a grandfather, his grandchildren would call him. He had many other titles including Lieutenant, brother, son, and his proudest title, “Father.” Ricky’s love for his children is the trait which best defines him. Anna and Jacob had a relationship with their dad that was more than that of a parent and his children. He was their best friend. Anyone who knew the family knew of their closeness. The love fostered in this relationship will live on through the interactions of his children with everyone they meet. They are his legacy. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Lafayette at 1011 Bertrand Drive on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 from 4:00 pm until 11:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Visiting hours will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 am until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Teurlings Catholic High School, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the charity of choice. Pallbearers include Jacob Rees, Jim Rees, Stephen Rees, Dan Rees, Tom Rees, and Greg Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Davis, John Bonin, Robert Rees, John Rees, Charles Rees, Grover Joseph Rees, III, and Benjamin Rees. Amber Bordelon, Carrie Monica, and Jenny Korner will serve as lectors for the Liturgy of the Word. The Reverend Hampton Davis will preside. Ricky's children will give eulogies to honor their father.
