Dr. Romeo Panlilio Galang

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers - Bertrand for Doctor Romeo Panlilio Galang, 96, who passed away on November 17, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. Reverend Robustiano Morgia, Pastor of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, LA., will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Dr. Galang, a resident of Lafayette, was the son of the late Mariano Guinto Galang and the former Maura Henson Panililio. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, in 1952, and completed fellowship in Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He established the Pampamga Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Infirmary and General Hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga, Philippines where he practiced clinical medicine until 1979. He served as president of the Pampanga Medical Association and District 380 Governor for Rotary International in 1979. He immigrated to the United States in 1980 and served as a medical instructor. He served as Charter President of the Filipinio-American Lions Club of New Orleans, Board member of the Association of Philippine Physicians in Louisiana and Gulf Coast, and President of the Philippine American United Council of Louisiana, and an active member of the Toastmasters Club. He was an avid reader and enjoyed studying American and English Literature, medical science, religious studies, and modern humor. He was known for extemporaneous public speaking, speech and debate, and his love of professional tennis and boxing. He is survived by his wife, Elfeda Isip Galang; children, Erlic Galang, Mariel Lim, Romeo Galang, Jr., Dr. Ulysses Galang, Dr. Carmina Cruz, Dr. Geraldine Galang, Dr. Lysander Galang, Dr. Romeo R. Galang III; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister, Mendelina Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lourdes Galang, Dr. Mariano Galang, Belarmino Galang, Eulogia Culala, Eufracia Songco, Levinia Achacoso, and Abelardo Galang. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Saturday, November 20, 2021 from 10:00 AM until time of service. The family would like to thank the Lafayette Council on Aging, Compassus Hospice, Grace Home Health, Mrs. Anne Bonneventure and the many friends and family who have provided love and support these many years.
