Rosa Belle Meche

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am at Christian Life Center, 411 Verot School Rd. in Lafayette, LA on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013 for Rosa Belle Carriere Meche, who died at 1:20 am Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 peacefully at her residence. The Rev. Richard Meche of Christian Life Center and Rev. Mike Whitaker of Houston, TX will officiate. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Rosa Belle, daughter of the late Amos Louis Carriere and the former Anna Bessy DeVillier Carriere was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette, LA since 1962. A loving, devoted mother of 8 children and a faithful follower of Christian Life Center, our mother accepted and loved all of her family unconditionally. She accepted everyone without judgment and spiritually worshiped the Lord, our God, faithfully. Belle, a professional seamtress, worked diligently assisting and sewing cheerleader uniforms for the local schools, customizing clothing for private citizens, fabricating curtains and draperies for businesses and ladies within the community. She loved preserving jellies, figs, and pickles. It is a testimony to her character and reflected through her children how she nurtured, and loved unconditionally. She will live on through her children and the kindness, gentleness she exemplifies will endure eternally. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Myra Meche and Allen and Cheryl Meche; six daughters and sons-in-law: Aline and Lawrence Higdon, Mary and Gill Talley, Patricia and Bobby Nillen, Ginger and Kenneth Chauvin, Rebecca Meche, and Lisa and Bobby Robertson; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bessie Turner, Mary Boatner, and Dorothy Nix and one brother, B Ray Carriere. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna Bessy and Amos Louis Carriere; her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Allen Joseph Meche, Sr.; 1 son-in-law Michael Breaux; and 1 grandchild Todd Alfred; 3 sisters Ruby Mistric; Ruth Mistric, and Gladys Dore’; and 13 half-brothers and sisters. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Christian Life Center on Monday, October 14, 2013 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Visiting hours will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
