Rosemary Fisher Humphrey

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 22, 2008 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Rosemary Fisher Humphrey, 82, who passed away Friday, January 18, 2008 at her residence. Reverend David Bricker, Associate Pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate the funeral services. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in Jennings, LA. Rosemary, the daughter of the late Richard Andrew Fisher, Sr. and the former Doris Garrould, was a resident of Lafayette. She was born on June 1, 1925 in Evangeline, LA. Her family moved around east Texas and south Louisiana following oilfield drilling operations until they settled in Jennings, LA where she graduated from high school. The school sports writer of her day still describes her as the best girls basketball player to ever play at Jennings High School. After high school, her family moved to Buras, LA in Plaquemine Parish where she met and married her husband, John L. Humphrey on August 24, 1947. They were married for 57 years before he died in December of 2004. Rosemary taught Physical Education for 11 years and owned and operated a daycare for 11 years while living in Buras. She was a charter member of Trinity Methodist Church there and has been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church since she and John retired to Lafayette in 1983. Her retirement years were spent traveling internationally and enjoying golfing vacations with her husband. Survivors include her three children, Doris Gutsmiedl, Ray Humphrey, and Lorna Foxworth; her nine grandchildren, Monte Richard, II, Andrew Humphrey, John Humphrey, Michael Humphrey, Amy Gutsmiedl, Eric Gutsmiedl, David Humphrey, Jessica Foxworth, and Steven Foxworth; her eight great-grandchildren, Kasi, Kadin, Koral, Zack, Hannah, Amber, Chloe, and Haden. Rosemary was a faithful wife, loving mother, and dedicated her life to helping others improve themselves and reach their potential in life. She will be missed greatly by her family and all those that knew her. The family requests visiting hours be observed on Monday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Tuesday from 8:00 am until the time of services. Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons.
