Ruth Rougeou

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, July 11, 2016 at First United Methodist Church - Lafayette for Ruth Houston Rougeou, 99, who passed away on July 8, 2016. Reverend Drew Sutton will conduct the funeral services. Burial will take place in Lafayette Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Rougeou, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles Alexander Houston and the former Josephine Fairchild. She was an active member of numerous civic and religious organizations, and was proud to serve as the First Lady of USL during her husbands Presidency. Ruth was a women of rare grace and refinement and a true Christian in both name and deed. She leaves the memory of a beautiful character, a life filled with generous and kindly acts and of thoughtfulness for those with whom she associated and worked. She is survived by eight children, Eileen (Wayne) Gremillion, Marie Louise (George) Bennett, Benjamin Charles (Kris) Rougeou, Ruth Anne (Rick) Hargett, Randolph Warner (Cheryl) Rougeou, Carole Jeanne "Candy" Johnson, Elizabeth Antoinette "Toni" (Benton) Scott, and Nancy Jo (Jim) Simon; sister in law, Connie Pratt Rougeou; thirty grandchildren; forty seven great grandchildren; one great great grandson as well as one niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Clyde L. Rougeou, Sr.; son, Dr. Clyde L. Rougeou, Jr.; three brothers, Dr. David Houston, Dr. Donald Houston and Rear Admiral Charles Houston. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM. Visiting hours will continue on Monday from 8:00AM until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Don Plauche, Brett Bennett, Hunter Rougeou, Todd Rougeou, Rich Hargett, Trevor Johnson, Houston Simon and Derek Scott. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Lafayette, The Salvation Army or the Dr. Clyde L. Rougeou Scholarship Fund at UL.
