Thomas Z. Green

Graveside services will be held at a later date in Crawfordsville, Indiana, for Thomas Zopher Green, Sr., who died at his residence at 12:05 pm on December 4, 2011 in Lafayette, LA. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Tyrone and Pauline Perry Green; three sisters, Virginia Green, Alice Gray and Elinor Rodgers and one brother, Wallace V. Green, all residents of Indiana as well as more recently, his sister, Barbara Jones of Eugene, Oregon. After graduation from Crawfordsville High School, Mr. Green attended the University of Illinois and Milligan College in Tennessee, and began studies at Tulane University in New Orleans. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific as the First Division (forward turrets and catapult) Line Officer aboard the light cruiser Duluth (CL-87). In 1949 he graduated from Tulane University with a degree in mechanical engineering and minors in physics and economics. He was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and the ETA honorary engineering fraternity. During five years with Southern Bell Telephone Company, Mr. Green was trained in New Orleans and Shreveport and was a commercial manager in Lafayette, Louisiana for two years. During 1954-1955 he became a licensed stocks and bonds broker and was the Lafayette representative for Tullis, Craig and Bright, a New Orleans investment brokerage firm. Later in 1955 he became a special agent for Prudential Insurance Company, and in 1962 became the first CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) in Lafayette. He earned the Chartered Financial Consultant designation in 1985, and continued with Prudential on an active and later emeritus status more than 46 years. During his first decade in Lafayette, Mr. Green was a cub scout pack leader in Lafayette Parish leadership training for the Boy Scouts of America, and was active in the Lafayette Kiwanis Club for sixteen years. Survivors include his wife, Martha Senter Green of Lafayette, LA; four children, Thomas Zopher Green, Jr. of Chico, CA, Mary Shannon Green and husband Christopher Prokosch of Floyd, VA, Martha Louise Green Bergeron and husband Henry Bergeron of Houston, Texas, and Pierce Perry Green, II of Austin Texas; six grandchildren, Lydia Prokosch, Nora Prokosch and Spencer Prokosch, of Floyd, VA, Alexander Bergeron of Houston, TX and Alexandra Green and Balzora Green of Chico, CA; one brother, Pierce Green of Crawfordsville, IN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lester Senter and Richard B.
