Timothy John Rushing

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 in St. Mary Mother of the Church for Timothy John Rushing, 69, who passed away on January 14, 2024. Fr. Cedric Sonnier, Pastor of St. Mary Mother of the Church, will be the Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Interment will take place at 10:00AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Resthaven Cemetery of Baton Rouge, LA, officiated by Deacon Tim Messenger. Tim, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana was the son of the late Edward Zach Rushing and the former Judith Marie Carmouche. After graduating from Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, Tim went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from LSU. After college, he proudly served as an officer in the Navy’s Nuclear Submarine Service from 1976 to 1981. Upon his completion of service, Tim began his career with ExxonMobil where he spent 38 years until he retired in 2019. He thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of figuring out complex projects; however, his most treasured experience involved mentoring young engineers. Sharing his vast knowledge and watching them was extremely gratifying to him. “Pops” enjoyed spending his time fishing, woodworking, tinkering in the garage with little odds and ends, traveling, watching LSU football with his son, playing with his grandsons and above all, enjoying a good cup of coffee with the love of his life, Pumpkindoodle. Tim’s love of music was encouraged at an early age by his family and whenever there was a special occasion, they always sang together. That love inspired him to join the choir at both St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Houston, Texas and then at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lafayette. Faith has always been a cornerstone of Tim’s life; however, that light grew even brighter after he experienced the ACTS Retreat. He shared his faith and love of God with his family, friends, and his church community. Being a homebound minister was joyful and fulfilling for Tim. Giving Communion to Ms. Bonnie, Ms. Genevieve, Ms. Judy, Mr. Donald, and to Paul’s Granny, was the highlight of his weekends. Tim was among the most gentle, kind, and selfless men that our Creator ever placed on this earth. He was a handy man of sorts, OSHA-approved or not. He was known as second husband and father figure to numerous friends, family, and neighbors. Most importantly, Tim was a good man and man of God. Pops was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and friend and he will be missed dearly by all that knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Nadine Rousseau Rushing; son, Paul Earl Rushing (Kristen); grandsons, Robert Earl Rushing and Charlie John Rushing; siblings, Emily R. Delaney (Albert), Mark E. Rushing (Sharon), and Steven Rushing (Lois). He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Judith Rushing; and beloved sister, Jeanette R. Milne. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Mary Mother of the Church on Friday, January 19, 2024 beginning at 1:00PM. A Rosary will be prayed at 2:30 PM on Friday afternoon in the church. Visiting hours will continue, following the Rosary, until the time of service. Pallbearers will be Paul Rushing, Parker Delaney, Scott Delaney, Jerry DiBenedetto, Harry Farley, Christian Ford, Steve Hazlip, Charles Milne, and Carl Rushing. His family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes and Calcutta House who provided extraordinary care and always thought of Pops’ dignity and comfort.
