Virginia Brint Red

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, July 2, 2007 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Virginia Brint Red, 86, who passed away June 27, 2007 at Kingsley Place Assisted Living Apartments. Reverend Ira Robinson, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist church will officiate at the funeral services. Interment will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. Born May 29, 1921 in Spring Hill Township, adjoining Hope in Hempstead County, Arkansas, she and her family moved to Lafayette in 1954. From 1968 until 1974, she and her husband were owner/operator of Quiet Cove Resort on Toledo Bend Lake. Upon returning to Lafayette, she was active as a realtor until her retirement in 1991. Mrs. Red was well known for her letters to the editor of the local newspaper expressing her views on many varied subjects. She loved her community and served on numerous boards and committees that addressed community needs. She was an involved community activist and volunteer throughout her adult life. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church for many years before joining Asbury United Methodist Church where she was an active member until infirmity slowed down her involvement in church affairs. She will be deeply missed. Survivors include her two sons, Walter Edward Red and Richard Preston Red; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce O'Dell Red; her parents, Olin and Mollie Brint; her five siblings, Louise Brint Jones, Robert Brint, Foster Brint, Ruel Brint, and Harah Brint. Pallbearers will be Barry Randall Brint, Ruel Ben Brint, Wayne Brint, Don Willingham, John McIntosh and Clarence Huval. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Eric Red, James Brint, Dr. Steve Brint, Chad Brint, Jon Brint, and JR Brint. The family would like to express their grateful thanks to the staff and doctors at Hospice of Acadiana. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be offered in the name of Virginia Brint Red to Hospice of Acadiana or the charity of one's choice. Visitation will be observed on Sunday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in the funeral home and will continue on Monday from 8:00am until the time of service.
